I’m Deanna Shankle, the owner of F.E.S. Fitness, and I have my personal trainers certification through American Council of Exercise since 2013, I am also a Level 1 Precision Nutrition Coach, Certified Women’s Coaching Specialist through Girls Gone Strong, a RRCA Level 1 running coach, and I am currently working on an additional running coach certification through UESCA.
I am passionate about empowering women to achieve the best part of themselves and pushing their limits through strength training, running, hiking, and camping. I enjoy working with women in the midlife stages, as I believe our lives are just beginning, not winding down! At a young age of 51, I see my age as a reason to get out there and challenge it to see what my body is capable of.
Like many of the women I work with, I have struggled with various illnesses and injuries that could have placed me on the sidelines permanently, but because I don’t take no for an answer, I view it as a challenge. At the age of 50, I was given a stage 1 cancer diagnosis and during that same year, I ran not only my first ultra but two additional ones! I ended that year with a 50 miler to celebrate my 50th birthday. You will usually find me enjoying my passions of trail running, racing, hiking, camping, or some other outside stuff. If I’m not outside, you will find me lifting weights to help keep my strength up and encouraging my clients to do the same.
I like to challenge my clients to shake a fist at the conventional wisdom that women are dainty creatures and instead should roll up our sleeves, get things done, and live life with adventures.
Our health can be a journey of ups and downs, and as we age, women face a daunting gauntlet of obstacles from menopause to osteoporosis and everything in between. We all face our individual mountains to climb, and starting out can be frightening and overwhelming. With the combination of my personal experiences, tenacity, and certifications, I can help you navigate your health journey, one step at a time. After all, the greatest mountain on earth is conquered not by leaps and bounds, but by putting one foot in front of the other. The decision to move forward starts in our hearts and minds.
